Fan coil electric motors
The range of fan coil electric motors at Sjerp & Jongeneel is normally used for the repair of fan coil units. The fan coil electric motors have a long service life but due to the prolonged operating hours the slide bearing runs more roughly overloading the motor. This can also occur when the impellers in the unit become dirty. Sjerp & Jongeneel can completely recondition the plate with the fan housings and the electric motor for you. In addition, we can supply the fan coil electric motors separately, optionally with foot and clips.
A number of criteria are important when selecting the fan coil electric motor.
- Power: We distinguish between the power produced at the shaft [Wr] and the power drawn from the power supply [Wa] Because the single-phase electric motor uses a relatively large amount of reactive current and the output from these small electric motors is lower, the difference between [Wr] and [Wa] is large. For this reason, always check that the nominal motor current of the fan coil motors being exchanged does not differ too much.
- Rotational speed (RPM): Most fan coil electric motors have three or more speeds. In practice not all speeds are always used and you can experimentally determine which speeds result in the best control. The maximum speed is the starting point for selecting the fan coil electric motor. After installation, always check that the nominal current for the various speeds and the least resistance for the blower are not exceeded.
- Voltage: Most of the times, fan coil electric motors are single-phase 230V 50Hz. Please check your power supply. When connecting make sure that only one speed is powered at the same time. With several speeds powered at the same time the fan coil motor will burn out.
- Diameter of the shaft: In most cases 1/2" / 1/2 Inch / or 12,7 mm in one case 3/8" = 9,52 mm occurs.
- Length of the shaft: Fan coil units are usually fitted with one, two or three fan housings. Sjerp & Jongeneel have exclusively fan coil electric motors with a shaft on both sides in stock. If the fan coil unit has one fan housing then the shaft on one side can be sawn off without any problems. With three fan housings one or two additional bearings are applied. These are also replaced during reconditioning. In one case the shafts of the new fan coil motor are shorter. If the impeller cannot be put in the correct position in the fan housing the shafts can be lengthened with an extension bush. Ask our sales team about this.
- Height and width of the foot: The seating measurement is the distance between the centre of the mountings for the motor. If the seating measurement of the existing foot and the new fan coil motor differ slightly the foot can be bent. Make sure here that the seating of the foot always stay perpendicular to the fan plate. In the case of bigger differences the fan foot can be replaced. The height must correspond to achieve the correct position for the impeller in the fan housing. In some cases the fan foot will have to be raised for this. Some fan coil motors are supplied with the foot as standard.
- Balancing: New fan coil motors run vibration-free. New impellers are balanced. Impellers can easily get bent or unbalanced during transport or fitting. Another cause of excessive vibration is an incorrect alignment when lengthening the shaft. Often a slight vibration is unavoidable due to the overall structure. The replacement of one or more impellers can provide the solution. Ask our sales team about this.
